UNSPLASH / ENGIN_AKYURT

The Hong Kong government announced on Wednesday that Hongkong Post will immediately suspend accepting packages for delivery to the United States, ahead of the end of the de minimis treatment by American president Donald Trump's administration set to take effect next month.

"Hongkong Post will definitely not collect any so-called tariffs on behalf of the US and will suspend the acceptance of postal items containing goods destined to the US. Regarding the surface mail, due to the longer shipping time, Hongkong Post will suspend the acceptance of surface postal items containing goods destined to the US with immediate effect (April 16)," the city said in a statement.

Starting April 27, airmail parcels will no longer be accepted. Document-only postal items without merchandise will continue to be processed as usual.
