Russia sees contacts between senior representatives of the United States and Iran regarding the nuclear deal as a positive step, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said in a press briefing on Tuesday.
"We know that certain direct and indirect contacts are planned in Oman. And, of course, this can only be welcomed, because it can lead to a de-escalation of tensions around Iran," Peskov noted, adding that Russia always advocated a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear program issue.
Previously, US and Iranian media reported that President Donald Trump's Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff will lead Washington's delegation for negotiations in Oman, while Tehran's delegation is expected to be headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
