The Russian Foreign Ministry stated on Friday that it summoned South Korean Ambassador Lee Do-hoon (pictured) after South Korea imposed sanctions on Russia. Seoul announced additional punitive measures earlier this week, targeting two Russian ships, two organizations and two individuals it suspected are connected to Russia's military trade with North Korea.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko said the sanctions are "another unfriendly step Seoul, undertaken on the basis of unfounded accusations" and that they "cannot but have a negative impact on bilateral relations." He called on South Korea to abandon measures that "provoke a further increase in tension on the Korean Peninsula."
