European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson announced on Tuesday that Russia is "using energy as a weapon", adding that there is no "immediate risk" to the security of the European Union's gas supply.
In a statement published on her Twitter account, Simson explained that the EU member states are prepared for gas supply interruptions. "If needed, we'll handle it in the spirit of solidarity, minimizing the impact on the EU's citizens and business," Simson concluded.
European Commission announced earlier in May its plan to reduce the EU's reliance on Russian energy imports.
