Russia's Ministry of Defense issued a statement on Wednesday saying Ukrainian armed forces launched a strike with Western-supplied ATACMS missiles on a military airfield in the Rostov region.
The ministry stated the attack took place on Wednesday morning and targeted an airfield located in the coastal city of Taganrog near the Ukrainian border. It further clarified that the investigation concluded that six American-made ballistic missiles were used in the strike. Two of the missiles were shot down by air defense systems while the remaining four were intercepted and deflected by electronic warfare equipment. The attack caused casualties among the personnel due to missile fragments but the ministry did not provide further details. In addition, minor damage to buildings on the territory of the airfield was recorded.
"This attack by Western long-range weapons will not go unanswered and appropriate measures will be taken," the ministry concluded.
