South Korea's Ambassador to the United Nations Hwang Joon-kook said on Sunday that South Korea is boosting its diplomatic efforts to get a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council. He told Yonhap that it is likely to become a member "because it is the only candidate nation in Asia."
Hwang argued that "the Security Council is the most representative organization responsible for realizing a global central state, a global contributor state and a global responsible state" and that a seat would "serve as an opportunity to expand our diplomatic horizons." The vote for the 2024-2025 membership will take place on June 6.
