South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol in his address on Thursday proposed the formation of an inter-Korean working group to help facilitate dialogue and reduce tensions with North Korea.
Yoon delivered his speech on the occasion of marking the anniversary of the end of Japanese rule in Korea and stated that liberation remains to be completed. The proposed Inter-Korean working group, "could take up any issue, ranging from relieving tensions to economic cooperation, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and disaster and climate-change responses," the president said.
At the same time, Yoon outlined that political and economic cooperation with the North can begin only after Pyongyang "takes just one step towards denuclearization."
