Scotland's Sturgeon confirms intention to resign

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced on Wednesday her intention to step down from the post, as well as the position of the Scottish National Party (SNP) leader, thus confirming earlier media reports.

"My decision comes from a place of duty and love, tough love perhaps, but love nevertheless for my party and for the country," Sturgeon stated at a press conference and noted she will stay in office until the party elects her successor.
