United States Senator Dick Durbin (pictured) said a bipartisan deal on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is "not likely" before government funding bill expires on Thursday. In a CNN interview, the Democrat said "real progress" is being made and saluted moderates in both parties for trying to solve the problem.
Durbin also referred to a deal proposed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who agreed to discuss the extension of the DACA program if Democrats vote for a spending bill to end a shutdown in January. With the bill expiring this week, there are renewed fears of another shutdown. "I don’t see a government shutdown coming, but I do see a promise by Senator McConnell to finally bring this critical issue… to a full debate in the Senate. That’s what we were looking for when there was a shutdown, we have achieved that goal, we’re moving forward," he said.
