The United States Senate voted 52-46 in favor of advancing the nomination of Tulsi Gabbard to be the new director of National Intelligence.
Two senators, Republican Tom Tillis from North Carolina and Democrat John Fetterman from Pennsylvania did not vote whereas all of the 52 Republican senators voted in her favor. Gabbard passed another hurdle to her potential confirmation, with the Senate set to hold the final vote sometime next week.
President Donald Trump nominated Gabbard, formerly a member of the Democratic Party, to lead US National Intelligence in November last year, stating that she would bring her "fearless spirit" to the US intelligence community.
