Robert F. Kennedy Jr. secured the majority of votes needed to become the next secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on Thursday.
Former Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell was the only Republican senator to oppose Kennedy's nomination during the final vote, though Kennedy was ultimately confirmed by a slim margin of 52-48.
The 71-year-old politician has previously refuted claims of opposing vaccination in the United States, emphasizing that he is not opposed to their use and highlighting their "critical role" in health care.
