NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Monday that he is "absolutely confident" Sweden will also join the alliance as Finland is officially admitted. The two countries submitted their bids last year but Sweden still faces the opposition of some NATO members, notably Turkey.
Stoltenberg sought to reassure Sweden, saying that its process of integration into the alliance started as soon as it applied for membership and that it is "inconceivable there could be threats against Sweden without NATO reacting." He also reiterated his call for further lethal and non-lethal aid to Ukraine and expressed hope that NATO foreign ministers will start to agree on a "more long-term partnership" to help Ukraine move closer to NATO at their meeting on April 4 and 5.
