Outgoing North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Monday that the European alliance members should not fear Donald Trump, but work with him if he wins the November elections in the United States.
"Whoever is elected as the president of the United States in November, I think it is important for European allies [to] engage with the United States to ensure that they continue to support Ukraine," Stoltenberg stated in an interview with Politico, adding that "it's important that European allies don't create self-fulfilling prophecies."
On his last day as NATO chief, Stoltenberg also noted that his successor, Mark Rutte, "has all the qualifications to be a perfect and great secretary general."
