White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan had a discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s top aides regarding the crisis in Ukraine, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, citing US and allied officials.
According to the officials, Sullivan held talks with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, alongside Putin's adviser Yury Ushakov, as concerns over nuclear threats and further escalation intensified. The officials emphasized that the goal of the exchange between the sides was to safeguard against the situation worsening, as well as to keep the communications channels open.
The settlement of the war between Moscow and Kiev was not discussed. The officials did not share further details on the outcome of the talks. Neither Kremlin nor the White House left any comments with regard to the news.
