The Conservative Party can still win the next general election in the United Kingdom if it demonstrates to the public that it is on their side, former Prime Minister Theresa May said on Monday in an interview with Radio 4's PM program.
May argued that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and finance secretary Jeremy Hunt could rebuild the party's reputation for "sound money and sound public finances" in the next two years, despite the damage caused by Liz Truss's failed mini-budget plan.
The British economy slipped 0.3% in the third quarter of the year, as the country's public sector borrowing hit a record £22 billion last month after tripling year-on-year. The next UK elections are scheduled to take place no later than January 2025.
