United States President Joe Biden's nominee for Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, described on Tuesday Turkey's purchase of the Russian S-400 missile defense system as "unacceptable."

"For a strategic partner to be in line with one of our biggest strategic competitors, Russia, is not acceptable," Blinken said. He added he would look at "possible sanctions" for the move beyond the scoop of the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA).

Earlier, Blinken criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin and his administration for trying to "silence the voice" of opposition politician Alexey Navalny and his supporters.
