Gatwick Airport announced on Friday that the security incident that led to the closure of its South Terminal due to a suspicious item discovered during security checks "has been resolved and cleared by police."
"We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while this situation was resolved. Safety and security is always our top priority," the airport stated. "There are some delays and cancellations. Passengers should contact their airline for any updates on flights."
A "security incident" caused hundreds of passengers to be evacuated from London's second-largest airport. Earlier today, the US embassy in Britain was temporarily closed after a suspicious package was identified nearby and subsequently destroyed in a controlled explosion.
