The White House confirmed on Thursday that United States President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping will have a telephone call later in the day, at 8:30 am ET.
The conversation comes amid the renewed tensions between Washington and Beijing concerning Taiwan and US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's potential visit to the island. Meanwhile, the US warship USS Ronald Reagan entered the South China Sea, which Beijing described as a threat to regional stability.
In the meantime, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan warned about the possibility of his country losing the position of the global technology leader to China.
