British Secretary of State for International Trade Liz Truss (pictured) said on Wednesday the United Kingdom intends to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which currently comprises Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam.
Truss stressed that the UK's membership in one of the world's "largest free trade areas" will help the country weather the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic and provide it with diversity in its trade links after Brexit.
The Brexit transition period will last until January 1, 2021. The new trade deal between the UK and the European Union is currently in the focus of their negotiations.
