British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper announced on Thursday a "landmark" migration agreement with Iraq to curb small boat crossings via the English Channel. She told Sky News that the two countries will cooperate on returning the migrants but also stop the migrants "at source" by identifying smugglers.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer accused the previous government of failing "by design, not accident" to stem immigration, which surged to a record high in 2023. He also said some sectors of the British economy are over-reliant on immigrant labor and vowed to stem the abuse of work visas.
