The United Kingdom was responsible for the incident in which a Russian IL-76 aircraft carrying Ukrainian prisoners was shot down earlier this year, RIA Novosti reported, citing a source familiar with the matter.
"The attack on the IL-76 was carried out under pressure from British advisers without coordination with the air defense headquarters in Kiev and without additional cross-checking of information about the movement of aircraft over the Belgorod region," the source was cited as saying.
After the aircraft was downed in January, Moscow initially claimed it was shot by Ukrainian missiles but later asserted that the plane was downed using United States Patriot Systems.
