The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that an explosion went off near a vessel travelling 63 nautical miles (about 116km) southwest of Yemen's port city of Hodeidah.
"The vessel and crew are reported safe and the vessel is proceeding to its next port of call," UKMTO's alert said.
Other vessels found in the area were advised to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity.
