The British Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday that it extended a contract with defense company Babcock International Group plc. for army equipment. The five-year deal is worth £1.6 billion and is expected to sustain 1,600 jobs across the United Kingdom.
Babcock will provide Challenger 2 tanks, 105mm artillery guns and Trojan armored vehicles, among other equipment, as well as maintenance services. "We are taking action to ensure the outstanding service men and women of our Armed Forces are properly equipped and ready to respond to ever-changing global threats," British Defence Secretary John Healey said.
