The British Foreign Office stated on Friday that it is "urgently seeking clarification" after a British citizen died in the separatist Donetsk People's Republic in Ukraine. Russian media reported earlier in the day that Paul Urey, an aid worker, died while in detention by the DPR militia.
A DPR official in charge of prisoners' rights stated Urey died of "illness and stress" and that he was known to suffer from "a number of chronic diseases, including insulin-dependent diabetes, damage to the respiratory system, kidneys and a number of diseases of the cardiovascular system." The 45-year-old was captured in late April and accused by the DPR of being a "mercenary."
