The United States Navy's 5th Fleet said on Wednesday that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) seized a Panama-flagged oil tanker Niovi.
The 5th Fleet stated the ship was captured while transiting the Strait of Hormuz and claimed a dozen IRGC Navy fast-attack craft "swarmed the vessel" and forced it to "reverse course into Iranian territorial waters during an unlawful seizure." The Iranian side is yet to comment on the matter
Last week, Iran seized a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman, claiming the ship tried to flee after colliding with an Iranian boat.
