The United States and South Korea fired four ground-to-ground missiles into the Sea of Japan in response to Pyongyang's latest missile test, Yonhap News Agency reported, citing the South Korean military.

The missile launch was conducted in joint drills between the two allies in an effort to demonstrate their capabilities and "deter further provocations," according to the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

The move comes just a day after North Korea launched an intermediate-range ballistic missile over Japan for the first time since 2017, prompting the Japanese government to call on its people to seek immediate shelter.
