Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada told the press on Tuesday that Pyongyang's latest missile test set the record as the longest-ever horizontal distance traveled by a North Korean intermediate-range or longer-range missile.
Hamada noted that the projectile landed outside Japan's exclusive economic zone by about 3,200 kilometers and traveled about 4,600 kilometers in total.
The projectile flew over the island country earlier on Tuesday and prompted Japan to tell its citizens to seek immediate shelter.
