The Extended Deterrence Strategy and Consultation Group (EDSCG), consisting of high-level officials from South Korea and the United States, met in Seoul on Friday to discuss possible nuclear threats from North Korea, following North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un's trip to Russia, where he had one on one conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Bonnie Jenkins, the US undersecretary of state for arms control and international security, reaffirmed that any kind of nuclear attack from Pyongyang, against Washington and its allies, would be "unacceptable and result in the end of that regime." Meanwhile, South Korean Vice Foreign Minister Chang Ho-jin reiterated that military cooperation between Russia and North Korea violates the United Nations Security Council resolutions.
