US-backed Syrian troops stated on Tuesday that Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) members have been completely driven out from the city of Raqqa. ISIS militants have held the city as their capital for over three years.
The liberation of Raqqa comes after the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), comprised of Kurdish and Arab troops backed by the United States, fought against ISIS in the city since June. Following the victory on Tuesday morning, SDF raised its flag inside Raqqa stadium.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights' statement, Raqqa was completely liberated from ISIS.
