US closes with gains as Trump mulls tariff exemptions

Stock markets in the United States ended the week's opening trading session with gains after President Donald Trump indicated that "a lot" of countries may be given exemption from reciprocal tariffs planned to go into effect on April 2. At the same time, the latest report showed that business activity in the US improved in March, contributing to positive investor mood.

The Dow Jones surged 1.42% with Amazon expanding 3.59%. The Nasdaq 100 jumped 2.16% and the S&P 500 grew 1.76% after Tesla rose 11.77% on both indexes.

Meanwhile, the euro slumped 0.19% against the dollar at 3:58 pm ET and sold for $1.08013.
