A federal judge ruled that the Trump administration can continue its federal worker buyout program, allowing the government to proceed with plans to reduce its workforce.
US District Judge George O'Toole dismissed a legal challenge, ruling that worker unions lacked standing to sue. He stated that the unions were challenging a policy affecting executive branch employees rather than the unions themselves. The decision lifts a temporary pause, enabling the buyout program to move forward as originally planned.
The program, known as the "Fork in the Road" initiative, offered federal employees eight months of pay and benefits if they resign by February 6. Those who accept the buyout will remain on the payroll through September 30.
