US initial jobless claims down by 10,000 to 201,000

The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States decreased by 10,000 to 201,000 in the week ending January 4, coming in lower than expected, the Department of Labor revealed in its report published on Wednesday. The 4-week moving average declined by 10,250 from the previous week's unrevised average to 213,000.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending December 28 remained at 1.2%. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment in the same seven days went up by 33,000 from the previous week's revised level to 1,867,000. The 4-week moving average dropped by 3,000 to 1,865,500.
