US lawmaker calls for China chip maker ban after Micron move

United States House China Committee Chair Mike Gallagher called on the US Commerce Department on Tuesday to ban ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) in a tit-for-tat move after Bejing restricted the chips sale of American-based Micron Technology Inc.

"The Commerce Department should immediately add ChangXin Memory Technologies to the entity list and ensure no U.S. technology, regardless of specifications, goes to CXMT, YMTC, or other PRC firms operating in this industry," Gallagher stated. The listed companies are prominent Chinese semiconductor manufacturers.

The lawmaker cautioned that Washington needs to send a clear message to China that it will not tolerate economic "coercion" targeting its companies or allies.
