Major US stock markets opened mixed on Thursday following the latest batch of US jobs data release.
Previously, Automatic Data Processing Inc. (ADP) said that the number of jobs in the country observed a monthly rise of 164,000 in December, significantly above what was expected. Meanwhile, the Department of Labor added that initial jobless claims for the week ending December 30 came in at 202,000, shrinking by 18,000 compared to the previous week.
The Dow Jones gained 0.11% at 9:30 am ET, with Chevron up 1.27%. At 9:33 am ET, the Nasdaq 100 fell 0.33%, and Walgreens Boots decreased by 7.78% after a worse-than-expected earnings report. A minute later, the S&P 500 was flat.
On the currency front, the euro improved by 0.21% against the dollar at 9:29 am ET, selling for $1.09440.
