Major stock indexes started Wednesday's session with gains after the Department of Labor Statistics released the latest Consumer Price Index report, which showed that annual inflation stood at 2.7% in November, rising slightly from the previous month's figure of 2.6%. In business, Macy's Inc. published its third-quarter financial results before the opening bell, while Adobe Inc. is expected to reveal its fourth-quarter earnings report after the markets close.
The Dow Jones advanced by 0.21% or 87 points at the open as Nvidia Corporation climbed by 1.63%. The Nasdaq 100 improved by 0.83% and the S&P 500 added 0.50%. Mondelez International Inc. pushed both indexes up with a jump of 3.95%.
The euro was down 0.17% against the dollar at 9:28 am ET, selling for $1.051074.
