European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed her astonishment at the EU's successful eradication of reliance on Russian fuels, during her arrival at the European Political Community's meeting in Spain on Friday.

"It's amazing to see how we got rid of our dependency on Russian fossil fuels, but also the huge leap forward in the investment in renewable energies," she said.

Von der Leyen emphasized that defense, energy supply chains, and migration matters would also be topics of discussion during the session. These subjects are part of the agenda set in the EU's Versailles declaration from 2022.
