When asked if he could rule out a recession, United States Vice President JD Vance briefly remarked in a Fox News interview that "you can never predict the future," noting, however, that he believes the economy is strong.
"The fundamentals of the economy are quite strong right now," Vance said, adding that President Donald Trump's administration will make the economy "stronger over the long haul" by "inducing more business to invest in American workers, by reshoring some of those critical supply chains." Vance also said Trump's tariffs are the US president's way to "fight back economically" against years of "unfairness" by some US allies, including the European Union.
Moving on to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Vance said that the way to make the agency's spending cuts permanent would be through a rescission package. "So a lot of the spending cuts we've seen from DOGE...Actually to get Congress to make those spending cuts permanent, that happens through legislation, that's something we're working with Congress on right now," he added.
