Vance: US working in private to protect religious minorities

EPA-EFE/WILL OLIVER

United States Vice President JD Vance responded to a question about what the United States can do about the violence against religious minorities in Syria during an interview on Fox News, saying that the administration was talking to its allies and "doing things in private to try to encourage them to protect the minorities" in Syria.

Vance stated that the White House was investigating whether the violence in Syria was an "isolated incident" or "if we are talking about a mass genocide." He added that "when America encourages these Islamic radicals," it often results in "religious minorities, especially Christians" being killed. Vance said that the US does not want to "see another Christian community erased from the face of the earth."

The vice president said they were "certainly not gonna put troops in Syria, but there are a lot of things we can do diplomatically and economically to protect some of those groups."
