Wall Street closes mixed with all eyes on Nvidia, budget bill

United States stock markets closed mixed on Tuesday after Nvidia for a few hours became a new member of a group of companies with a valuation surpassing $1 trillion and extended a rally that started with an upbeat earnings report last week. Traders will continue to watch statements by lawmakers about the passage of the budget and debt ceiling bill. Elsewhere, Salesforce, HP and HPE are set to publish their latest quarterly results after the close.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index closed with a 0.15% loss as Merck & Co Inc. fell by 1.71%. The Nasdaq 100 increased by 0.40% at the close, pulled up by Enphase Energy's 5.40% jump. The S&P 500 was flat at 4 pm ET.

The euro was 0.21% higher compared to the dollar, going for 1.07298 at 3:59 pm ET.
