US stocks ended mostly higher on Tuesday as Wall Street paused to digest Monday's sharp gains, which had been fueled by hopes that upcoming tariffs might be more limited than expected.
However, markets appeared to shrug off a troubling drop in consumer confidence. The Conference Board's March index slipped to 92.9, with future expectations plunging to 65.2, the lowest in 12 years.
The Dow Jones was flat at 4:00 pm ET. The Nasdaq 100 added 0.53%, and The Trade Desk led the gains, improving by 4.48%. The S&P 500 rose 0.16%, as International Paper advanced by 6.49%.
The euro was flat against the dollar at 3:58 pm ET in currency markets, selling for $1.07956.
