United States stock markets dropped below the flatline in the afternoon trading on Friday, wiping out earlier gains as concerns about the upcoming Federal Reserve decision on interest-rate policy increased.
The country's unemployment rate rose to 3.7% in the latest August reading, seemingly prompting the negative trend.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 0.63% or over 200 points at 1:39 pm ET. At the same time, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq 100 dropped by 0.72% and 1.14% respectively. The euro stood flat against the American dollar, going for $0.99501 at 1:28 pm ET.
