White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz revealed on Wednesday that he held a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin's foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov to discuss US President Donald Trump's efforts to bring the war in Ukraine to an end.
"We agreed our technical teams would meet in Riyadh in the coming days to focus on implementing and expanding the partial ceasefire President Trump secured from Russia," Waltz said in a post on X. Previously, he told reporters that he also intends to hold a conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart later today.
Previously, Russian news agency Kommersant reported, citing unnamed sources, that Putin is considering seeking a formal recognition of Crimea, Sevastopol, the Luhansk People's Republic, the Donetsk People's Republic, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson as Russian territories as part of a peace deal.
