United States Energy Secretary Chris Wright told CNBC in an interview on Tuesday that should Iran fail to reach a deal with the United States concerning its nuclear program, more stringent sanctions will likely come its way.
"I would expect very tight sanctions on Iran, and hopefully drive them to abandon their nuclear program," he commented. Earlier, while US President Donald Trump revealed that Washington and Tehran will commence direct negotiations on Saturday, the latter's officials claimed that the talks will still be indirect.
Touching on the topic of electricity, Wright said that the US needs a "growing supply of electricity to hit the AI boom," adding that production should increase by 25%. He also remarked that the country must stop closing its coal plants.
