Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated Asif Ali Zardari on his reelection as the Pakistani head of state, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
During the call, the Chinese president highlighted ironclad relations between Beijing and Islamabad and praised the establishment of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor which achieved "fruitful results."
The 68-year-old leader secured his second term as Pakistani president over the weekend, receiving 411 votes from national and provincial legislators. He previously held the position of the 11th head of state in Pakistan from 2008 to 2019. Shehbaz Sharif was also reelected for his second term as Pakistani prime minister earlier this month.
