Yellen: Congress must resolve debt limit to protect global economy

United States Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen took to Twitter to comment on the importance of Congress resolving the debt ceiling impasse in order to "maintain America's economic leadership" and "protect the global economy," following her arrival in Japan ahead of the Group of Seven (G7) Summit in Hiroshima.

Meanwhile, United States President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's talks over the federal debt and spending hit a deadlock during their meeting at the White House the day earlier, with the discussion expected to continue on May 12.

United States President Joe Biden underscored that default on nation's debt is "not an option."
