Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer denied a report on Wednesday that Austria will pay for Russian gas in rubles. Russian media announced the decision earlier in the day after Moscow cut the supply of gas to Poland and Bulgaria for refusing to use Russian currency.
Nehammer called the report "fake news" and said that Austrian oil company OMV will "of course" continue to pay for gas deliveries from Russia in euros. "Austria is sticking to the jointly agreed EU sanctions to the letter," he stressed.
