Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz stated on Tuesday Vienna would purchase one million doses of the Russian Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology's vaccine against COVID-19, Sputnik V, in April, as quoted by Oe24.at.
Kurz remarked combating the pandemic should face "no geopolitical blinders" as the "only important thing is whether the jab is effective and safe." Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted its deal with Vienna would "crumble" the "myths" of Moscow's "aggression" and the "need for its isolation."
The news comes after Kurz urged the European Union to distribute its supplies of vaccines in such a way as to make sure all its members had received an equal share.
