United States President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he no longer plans to run for president in the 2024 elections.

"It's been an honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term," he shared in a statement.

Biden will address the nation sometime next week to elaborate further on his decision. To conclude, he thanked Vice President Kamala Harris and the American people for their support. He is yet to endorse a candidate who could potentially take his place.
