United States President Joe Biden officially announced on Tuesday that he will run for a second term in 2024. "When I ran for president four years ago, I said we are in a battle for the soul of America. And we still are," Biden said in a video announcement of the bid. He added that he is running in order to ensure Americans have "more freedom" and "more rights."
"Let's finish this job. I know we can," Biden stated as he urged voters to support him.
Biden is not expected to face much opposition within the Democratic party in the election. Environmental lawyer and anti-vaccine activist Robert Kennedy and Project Angel Food founder Marianne Williamson announced bids but Biden is leading the polls. On the Republican side, Biden's predecessor Donald Trump is the favorite to win the nomination despite facing fraud charges, according to the latest polls.
