United States President Joe Biden described Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's speech on the conflict between Israel and Hamas, in which he urged new elections in the Middle Eastern country, as "good."
Speaking to reporters during Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar's visit to the White House, Biden said that he thought Schumer "expressed serious concerns shared not only by him but by many Americans." Still, he also insisted that "I'm not going to elaborate on the speech."
In the speech, Schumer also described Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as "an obstacle to peace." The White House then confirmed it was aware of what Schumer was going to say. Meanwhile, the State Department stressed that Schumer expressed his own thoughts, not those of the Biden administration.
